Record efficiency in solar electricity conversion without concentration
שארפ הכריזה על שיא חדש בהמרה של אור שמש לחשמל ללא ריכוז הקרינה: 35.8%. השיא הושג על ידי מבנה תא רב-צמתי שבו הצומת התחתון עשוי מ-InGaAs במקום מ-Ge כפי שמקובל בתאים כאלו. Sharp has announced a new record conversion efficiency from sunlight to electricity without concentration: 35.8%. The record was achieved using a multi-junction structure where the bottom subcell is made from InGaAs instead of the commonly used Ge.

Solar electricity roadmap
הסוכנות הבינלאומית לאנרגיה פרסמה שני מסמכי מפת דרכים עבור ייצור חשמל סולארי במסלול התרמי ובמסלול הפוטוולטאי. לפי הערכת מומחי הסוכנות, חשמל סולרי יוכל לספק עד 25% מצריכת החשמל העולמית בשנת 2050. The Internal Energy Agency has published two roadmap documents for solar electricity generation, in the thermal and photovoltaic paths. According to the expert estimates, solar electricity will be able to provide up to 25% of the global electricity by 2050.
