הועדה לתכנון: לקדם תחנות כוח סולאריות בתמנע

בישיבת המועצה הארצית לתכנון שהתקיימה ב-7 ביולי הנחתה המועצה להכין תוכנית מפורטת לשלוש תחנות כוח תרמו סולאריות בתמנע בהיקף של 50-75 מגוואט כל אחת ותחנות כוח פוטו-וולטאיות נוספות בהיקף של כ- 40 מגה-וואט. החלטה זו נתקבלה בהמשך להחלטת הממשלה שהוביל משרד התשתיות הלאומיות לקידום אנרגיות מתחדשות באזור הנגב והערבה מחודש ינואר 2009. במסגרת ההחלטה הוטל על מינהל מקרקעי ישראל לפרסם מכרזי קרקע בשטח מוא"ז חבל אילות, להקמת שלוש תחנות כוח תרמו-סולאריות. צוות התכנון מטעם משרד התמ"ת ובשיתוף משרד התשתיות הלאומיות איתר שטח של כ-5,300 דונם בשני מתחמים באזור התעשייה תמנע.
The National Council for Planning ordered on July 7 the preparation of detailed plans for three solar thermal power plants in the Timna region, 50-75 MW each, and 40 MW of PV plants. This decision follows the government's decision on January 2009 to promote renewable energy in the Negev desert.
The 200 MW Timna Renewable Energy Park will be the centerpiece of the Eilat-Eilot region’s efforts to turn Southern Israel into the “Silicon Valley” of renewable energy. The Timna Park will eventually include technologies from companies around the world, with planned projects to include solar, wind, and production of biogas from municipal waste.
The Israeli government announced plans for the construction of one renewable energy plant each year beginning in 2010 for a period of at least 10 years. The decision stipulates higher tariffs to be paid to solar power companies for the production of solar energy, and a plan to offer tenders for the construction of solar plants in the Timna Park. Additionally, the government stipulated in their decision that by 2020, 10% of Israel’s energy must be generated by alternative sources, such as wind and solar, positioning Israel as a major player in the development of alternative energy technologies.
